The final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be played at the Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados.

Aiden Markram-led South Africa will take on Rohit Sharma's India in the final showdown. It's the first time that South Africa have qualified for a World Cup final in any format while India will be looking to win the trophy they last won in 2007.

T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Format and dates

The ICC T20 World Cup Final 2024 will be played on Saturday, June 29 in Barbados. If the match is not commenced due to rain and unplayable pitch conditions, it will be shifted to the reserve day on June 30.

The following rules will be used to determine the World T20 champions 2024 in case of a rain interruption in the Final 

  • An extra time of 190 minutes will be allotted to the Final game on Saturday to ensure a 20-over game and a fair result for both sides. Overs reduction will be in place following that. 
  • If the game is abandoned without a ball being bowled, it will be moved to the reserve day 
  • In the event of a tie, the winners will be determined using a super over. 
  • If the match is abandoned due to rain or pitch conditions following a tie, the teams playing in the final will be declared as joint winners of the competition.

Rules for the 2024 T20 World Cup Final if its moved to reserve day

If the match is not completed on the scheduled day and moved to the reserve day on Sunday, the match will recommence from where it was halted. 

For example, if the toss is commenced on the scheduled day and the game is abandoned following that, the result of the toss and the named teams will be carried through to the reserve day. 

The treatment of the ground on reserve day by the Ground Authority will be as follows: 

  • Covering and removal of covers - as for the scheduled day of the match under Clause 10 of the playing conditions 
  • Mowing and Rolling - as for day 2 of a Test match, under clause 9 of the ICC Test match playing conditions.

Instances if the 2024 T20 World Cup final is commenced on the scheduled day and then moved to the Reserve day

  • Instance 1: The match starts with 20 overs per side and an interruption occurs after a few overs. Overs are reduced to 17 overs and the match is abandoned without a ball being bowled, the match will be moved to reserve day with 20 overs per side. Reduction overs will take place if necessary.
  • Instance 2: The match starts with 20 overs per side and interruption occurs after a few overs. Overs are reduced down to 17 overs. The match is resumed and an over is bowled before the match is abandoned. In such a scenario, the match will restart with the 17-over format in place on reserve day.
