Veteran spinner Steve O'Keefe is set to go around again in the Big Bash, inking a one-year extension with the Sydney Sixers.

The 38-year-old has been one of the franchise's greatest players, playing a vital role in all three of their BBL titles and taking countless wickets along the way.

O'Keefe was snubbed by Cricket NSW a few years ago and opted to retire from first-class cricket, instead focusing on T20 cricket for the Sixers and grade fixtures for Manly.

Many believed that O'Keefe would hang up the boots prior to BBL|12, but the left-armer has proven why he is still a great asset for the Sixers, taking 12 wickets in eight games including a four-wicket haul against the Thunder.

Sixers head of cricket Jonathan Robinson-Lees praised him as one of the club's all-time legends.

"Steve is a foundation player and an important leader for the Sixers." he said.

"It's no coincidence that Steve has been such a large part of the Sixers' on-field success.

"His cricket nous and understanding of the T20 format have been instrumental for the club for over a decade.

“We are excited for him to be returning for BBL|13 and know that Sixers fans look forward to seeing him again next summer."

A beloved figure within the cricket community, O'Keefe had a rather brief international career, playing just nine Tests and seven T20Is for Australia.

His extension with the Sixers comes just days after batsman Jordan Silk also locked in his BBL future, signing on for another three campaigns.

O'Keefe and Silk will both line up for the Sixers on Thursday night as the side look to win their fourth BBL title.
