West Ham left it late against AZ Alkmaar before booking their place in the final of the Europa Conference League to add to their history of reaching showpiece matches.

David Moyes' side lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semifinals last term, but they have a chance to give their fans some joy with a final showdown against Fiorentina in what has otherwise been a poor season.

The Hammers have not had the best record in cup competitions in recent times, but this is a chance for them to change that.

The Sporting News looks at West Ham's cup history and their record in finals.

Last time West Ham reached a final

Despite making back-to-back European semifinals, West Ham's cup record has been poor as of late. They last reached a cup final in the 2005/06 FA Cup, when they lost to Liverpool on penalties.

Since then the Hammers have reached the semifinals twice in the EFL Cup, losing to Birmingham and Man City respectively, and have not progressed past the sixth round of the FA Cup.

They lost both semifinal legs against Frankfurt last season and were held at home in the first leg of this term's Europa Conference League semis, before Pablo Fornal's stoppage-time strike settled matters in the second leg.

In league action, they last reached a playoff final in 2012 when they beat Blackpool to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

When did West Ham last win a trophy?

It is fair to say it has been a long time since West Ham last won some silverware. The claret and blue side have won four major trophies in their history, with the last coming back in 1980.

They beat Arsenal in the 1980 FA Cup final in front of 100,000 people at the old Wembley Stadium. Hammers legend Trevor Brooking scored the winner for his side, securing their third FA Cup title.

West Ham also have a European trophy to their name, beating 1860 Munich in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in the 1960s.

Season Competition Final
1963/64 FA Cup 3-2 vs Preston
1964/65 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 2-0 vs 1860 Munich
1974/75 FA Cup 2-0 vs Fulham
1979/80 FA Cup 1-0 Arsenal

West Ham also won the UEFA Intertoto Cup back in 1999 after being granted a spot in the competition by Europe's governing body.

The now defunct tournament was a regular feature of the 1990s European calendar, and after beating Finnish side Jokerit and Dutch team Heerenveen, they squeezed past Metz as one of three 'final winners'.

Europa Conference League final date and venue
