Liverpool embarrassed Manchester United at Old Trafford as they put three past Erik ten Hag's side without reply.
Luis Diaz bagged a first-half brace that saw Casemiro hooked at halftime after his worst performance in a United shirt to date, and that's saying something.
The midfielder's poor pass in his own half allowed Liverpool to break quickly, Mohamed Salah hanging up a cross to the back post for Diaz to head in. Seven minutes later, Diaz barged Casemiro off the ball and the visitors again attacked quickly, Salah this time prodding a low pass to Diaz who finished stylishly first time.
As if to underline their fragility in midfield, Kobbie Mainoo was guilty of losing the ball in his own half early in the second period in the build-up to Salah's strike. As was the case against Brighton & Hove Albion last week, United owed all the goals they conceded to their own mistakes.
Salah's assists for both of Diaz's goals were impressive, as was his finish as he added Liverpool's third in the second half with a neat strike into the bottom corner. That goal saw a large number of United fans head for the exit and it was Salah's 10th in nine appearances at Old Trafford for Liverpool in all competitions, bettered by no other Red throughout history.

Starting lineups:
Man United XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Onana (GK) — Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot — Casemiro, Mainoo — Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford — Zirkzee.
Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Alisson (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Mac Allister, Gravenberch — Salah, Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz — Diogo Jota.
For Arne Slot, he also made history as he became the first Liverpool manager to beat Man United in his first game in charge of this fixture since Bob Paisley in 1975.
The Old Trafford crowd were further frustrated when Ten Hag brought off Alejandro Garnacho instead of Marcus Rashford. The Englishman had yet another quiet game and the fans made their voices heard with the loudest boos of the afternoon.
The best chances for United all fell to Joshua Zirkzee, who tested Alisson on multiple occasions, but the Brazilian got the better of him.
Fortunately for the home side, the international break is now upon us and United will have two weeks to get over this damaging result before they take a trip to Southampton on September 14.
Slot will have been desperate to build on this momentum but he'll have to wait until a home clash against Nottingham Forest, where he can win his fourth in a row to begin his Liverpool career.

Man United vs. Liverpool lineups, team news, starting 11
The news that Mason Mount is once more facing several weeks out of action with a muscle injury was a big blow to United this week. With Scott McTominay now at Napoli, they suddenly look light on midfield options, particularly as Manuel Ugarte is not yet available following his deadline-day transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
Joshua Zirkzee may therefore get his first start, perhaps alongside Bruno Fernandes in the 4-2-2-2 set-up Ten Hag has favoured in 2024. Rasmus Hojlund is still out and Jadon Sancho has gone to Chelsea, so Marcus Rashford will likely keep his place despite his poor form, with Alejandro Garnacho perhaps getting the nod ahead of Amad Diallo.
Man United predicted XI (4-2-2-2, right to left): Onana (GK) — Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot — Casemiro, Mainoo — Garnacho, Rashford — Fernandes, Zirkzee
Injured: Rasmus Hojlund, Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro
Suspended: None
New Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa could make his debut for the club at Old Trafford, although it's likely he would be a substitute at best, having only just completed his transfer from Juventus.
Curtis Jones faces a battle to be fit after missing the win over Brentford, but Slot has an otherwise fully fit squad for this huge early test of his Anfield tenure.
Liverpool predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Alisson (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Gravenberch, Mac Allister — Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz — Jota
Injured: Curtis Jones (doubt)
Suspended: None
