This crop of Manchester City players have written their name in the history books by becoming the 10th team to win the treble — but there's also plenty of personal glory for Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan coach created one of the greatest Barcelona teams of all-time, lifting the Champions League trophy in both 2008/09 and 2010/11. However, his post-Lionel Messi era has seen him fail to win Europe's biggest competition since.

That changed in Istanbul, as he took his tally to three titles, and six in total in UEFA competitions, as he continues to cement his status among the greatest managers ever.

City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final, with midfielder Rodri grabbing the winner.

Manager who won the most European trophies

Guardiola's great rival Jose Mourinho has won five European trophies so far in career. He currently ranks joint-fifth among managers with the most trophies in European competitions.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti leads the list with a total of nine European trophies, though. His most recent success came in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, where Los Blancos beat Eintracht Frankfurt.

Note: Champions League and Europa League references in the table below include previous iterations as European Cup and UEFA Cup.

Clubs that have won most European trophies

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid are the club with the most European trophies. They have won the Champions League 14 times, more than any other side, and also have two Europa League titles to their name.

Milan, another of Ancelotti's former teams, are second on the list, while Liverpool are England's most successful club when it comes to European success.

Seven different teams have won at least 10 pieces of European silverware, including Netherland's Ajax. The Dutch were successful during the playing and managerial career of footballing icon Johan Cruyff.
