Indian opener Shubman Gill has become the youngest player to score an ODI double-century, less than a month out from the Test series against Australia.

One of the best young players in world cricket, Gill finished with 208 from 149 balls against New Zealand, smashing 19 fours and nine maximums in the 12-run victory.

The 23-year-old is expected to open the batting for India in the upcoming four-game series against the Aussies, and took the game by the scruff of the neck against the Kiwis after Virat Kohli was dismissed for a single-figure score.

Gill has received high praise across the cricketing community following the stellar knock, who now has three ODI tons to his name from just 19 appearances.

VVS Laxman and Michael Vaughan were among the legends to praise Gill for his efforts on social media.

Gill became just the 10th player in ODI history to score a double-century, with his current captain Rohit Sharma achieving the feat on three occasions.

The three-game white-ball series between India and New Zealand will conclude on January 24th, before the side turn their attention to an in-form Australian Test side on February 9th.
