It looks as though Arsenal's long wait for their first major signing of the transfer window is nearly at an end.
The Gunners have long been linked with Bologna and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2023/24 as he helped his side secure surprise qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
The Serie A side had been holding firm in negotiations with Arsenal as they sought to recoup a significant fee for Calafiori, while also discussing terms of a sell-on clause with Basel, one of his former clubs.
But it looks as though the deal may finally be on the verge of conclusion.
Riccardo Calafiori pictured 'flying in for Arsenal medical'
On July 27, Fabrizio Romano posted a photograph on X showing Calafiori on a private plane with his representatives.
Romano said the photo showed the player "on his way to London with his agents — all set for medical tests with Arsenal!". Accompanying Calafiori were Alessandro Lucci and Alessio Ceccarelli from the WSA Agency.

Calafiori is expected to undergo medical tests on Monday before finalising his move to Arsenal in a deal worth a reported €45 million (£38 million/$48.8 million).
