Former NRL talents Siua Taukeiaho and Jayden Nikorima have been sacked by Super League team Catalans Dragons.

The Perpignan-based club released a statement on Friday, citing a "highly unacceptable" incident, which has seen them terminate the contracts of three players.

"Following a disciplinary process, the Catalans Dragons have decided to terminate the contracts of three of their players with immediate effect. The players concerned are Siua Taukeiaho, Jayden Nikorima and Damel Diakhate," the statement read.

"All players were involved in an incident deemed to be highly unacceptable by the club and contrary to the club’s values."

Why were Taukeiaho and Nikorima sacked by Catalans Dragons?

The incident in question relates to a period of "unauthorised absence" during an international break week in June, where select players were expected to train, per Yorkshire Live.

According to French outlet L'Indépendant, the three players faked an illness so they could attend a concert in the United Kingdom.

Taukeiaho spent just under a decade in the NRL, playing 167 games for the Sydney Roosters before becoming a free agent in 2023.

Nikorima also played for the Tricolours during a brief spell from 2016 to 2017.

He was signed to the Melbourne Storm for the 2022 and 2023 seasons before departing to France this year.

The other player, French prop Damel Diakhate, had previously featured for Hull FC.

The triple departures will open up two quota spaces for the Dragons, which they may look to fill ahead of the transfer deadline window in August.
