The inaugural World Snooker Tour event held on Saudi Arabian soil is up and running in Boulevard City with the Riyadh Season World Masters attracting plenty of attention from fans across the world.
Expanded from a 10-player to 12-player tournament just last week, rounds one and two saw the two wildcard players, local player Omar Alajlani and Qatar's Ali Alobaidli, eliminated by late entrants Ding Junhui and John Higgins, with the latter qualifying for the quarterfinals with a win over Mark Williams in the second round.
With almost £800,000 combined up for grabs in the prize pot, and extra prizes on offer too, the remaining eight players will all be hoping to go as far as they can in the tournament — most notably Luca Brecel, the 2023 world champion, and Ronnie O'Sullivan, the world's highest-ranked player and winner of two Triple Crown events so far this season.

Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker prize money
There's a sizeable prize pool of £785,000 to be split between the 10 players at the ongoing Riyadh World Masters, with the winner receiving £250,000. However, in this unique event, that's not quite top billing.
The reason for this is the implementation of a unique golden ball rule, which sees a new gold-coloured 'Riyadh Season Ball' entered onto the table which is worth 20 points alone. It can only be potted once all of the other balls have been cleared from the table, with the player on a maximum break of 147 points, thus potting the golden ball will take their score up to 167.
If a player does achieve this world-record number by potting the golden ball, they'll net a cool $500,000 — roughly £395,000 — on top of the amount earned by their progress in the tournament itself. John Higgins has come closest to securing the golden ball so far in the competition, in his second-round win over Mark Williams
