The final matchup is set for UEFA Euro 2024 on Sunday at Berlin's historic Olympiastadion as England will lock horns against Spain.

This is just the second time that the Three Lions have reached the final of a European Championship. The other time came at the previous tournament in 2021, when they lost a heartbreaker in the final at home at Wembley Stadium to Italy in a penalty shootout. Gareth Southgate's side will be aiming to win their first major international tournament since the 1966 World Cup this weekend.

They looked to be going into extra-time for the third straight game in the semifinal tie against the Netherlands in Dortmund after Harry Kane's contentious first-half penalty equalised a thunderous early strike from Xavi Simons.

However, a last-minute strike from substitute Ollie Watkins sealed the victory to leave the Three Lions' within one game from making history and ending their drought stretching back 58 years.

Spain, meanwhile, will attempt to win a record fourth European Championship, with a win Sunday breaking a tie with Germany for the most titles in tournament history.

Luis de la Fuente's side are the only team to have triumphed in all six matches of this tournament in Germany, edging past Julian Nagelsmann's hosts in the quarterfinals with a stunning 2-1 extra-time victory before coming from behind to beat France 2-1 in the semis in Munich and claim their place in the final of Euro 2024.

England vs. Spain lineups & team news

Gareth Southgate has settled on a 3-4-2-1 system for England since the quarterfinal win over Switzerland.

Left-footed full-back Luke Shaw, who scored the Three Lions' only goal in the Euro 2020 final against Italy, gets the nod at left-wingback over Kieran Trippier, having overcome an injury that he carried over to Germany. After coming off the bench in the past two games and replacing Trippier at halftime in Dortmund, the Manchester United defender earns his first start of the tournament as Southgate tries to formulate a plan to restrict the dazzling Lamine Yamal on Spain's right wing.

Calls for the energetic Ollie Watkins to start ahead of Harry Kane, who has struggled to make a notable impact and cut a frustrated figure for much of the tournament despite getting on the scoresheet three times, were never likely to be headed after Aston Villa scored the winner off the bench against the Netherlands.  As expected, Southgate has kept faith with is campaign, who will lead the line ahead of attacking midfielders Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.

England starting lineup (3-4-2-1, right to left): Pickford (GK) — Walker, Stones, Guehi — Saka, Mainoo, Rice, Shaw — Foden, Bellingham — Kane.

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has defenders Robin Le Normand and Dani Carvajal back from one-match bans, slotting into the back four in place of Nacho and Jesus Navas respectively.

Alvaro Morata  appeared to hurt his knee when a security guard slipped and collided with him during the post-match celebrations against France. Morata was wincing as he made his way off the pitch, raising doubts about his availability for Sunday's final, but De la Fuente's faith that his captain would recover in time proved well-placed.

Spain starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Simon (GK) — Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella — Dani Olmo, Rodri, Fabian Ruiz — Lamine Yamal, Morata, Nico Williams.

England vs. Spain prediction

  • Score prediction: England 1-1 Spain (a.e.t, England to win on penalties)

Both teams have the defence solidity required to shut up shop. Both teams have the attacking talent required to breach the other's rearguard, although the Three Lions' attack has occasionally lacked the clinical finish and precision during this Euros, leading to some lackluster performances.

Spain are a vibrant, well-organised and energetic side with bags of flair and creativity, as well as a ruthless streak that has seen them down the likes of France and Germany along the way. However, it can also not be denied that the Three Lions have more talent and experience in high-stakes matches, which plays a crucial role in games of this magnitude.

There are no two ways about it, it's very tough to call and could well go all the way. It seems unlikely that this encounter will be settled over the course of 90 or even 120 minutes. No fan from either nation wants the final to be decided by a penalty shootout, but that is the direction TSN expect Sunday's battle to head in, and Southgate's side will hope to rely on their recent experience from 12 yards to finally bring football home.
