An unparalleled season of F1 is well up and running following an electrifying opening five races in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan and China. Max Verstappen is the defending champion having won his third consecutive title at a canter in 2023, and has started the new year with four victories either side of a third-lap withdrawal at the Australian Grand Prix.

Beating his own record for number of races won in a single season with a massive 19 from 22 on offer, the flying Dutchman came into the new campaign as a three-time champion, and has already won four of the five meetings so far in 2024 — with another 19 to go before the end of the year.

His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, the only other winners of races in 2023, have pushed Verstappen closest so far this year, with Perez finishing as runner-up behind the Dutchman in four of the opening five races, with Sainz storming to victory in Australia on weekend three.

2024 Formula 1 season schedule

The 2024 F1 season began in Bahrain, before a short trip across the Persian Gulf to Saudi Arabia the following week. The Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia was next up, and was the first race of the campaign to take place on a Sunday after the opening two were held on Saturdays to accommodate the start of Ramadan.

Up next in 2024 is the Austrian Grand Prix on the weekend of June 30. Racers just finished the Spanish Grand Prix, which was another victory for Verstappen.

Looking ahead, the campaign will return to the United States toward the end of the year. The middle portion of the season sees seven back-to-back races held in Europe, beginning with June's Spanish Grand Prix and ending with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, before heading east to Baku for the Azerbaijan circuit.

Following the only the second Grand Prix in Las Vegas since 1982 at the end of November, this record 24-race season concludes in the Middle East, with Qatar and Abu Dhabi hosting the final two circuits of the campaign.
