Dan Hurley warned the basketball world in 2020. The UConn men's basketball team lost 61-55 on Jan. 18, 2020, to fall to 10-7.

"People better get us now. That's all. You better get us now. It's coming," Hurley said, in words that now feel prophetic.

Since the warning, there have been three national championship games played. The Huskies have won each of the past two, the latest coming by way of a 75-60 win against Purdue. Both title games were won by double-digits. The 2024 March Madness run by the Huskies was historic, as UConn posted the largest margin of victory in tournament history.

Has there ever been a March Madness three-peat?

There has only been one — and it was well over a three-peat.

UCLA won seven straight national championships in the days of John Wooden, claiming each title from 1967-73. As if that's not enough, the Bruins also won back-to-back titles in 1964-65 and another in 1975.

Beyond the Bruins, no one has won three straight national championships.

Only three teams have appeared in three straight title games other than UCLA during the Bruins' run. Ohio State went to title games in 1960-62, winning in 1960 and losing the next two. Cincinnati beat Ohio State in 1961-62 but lost to Loyola (Ill.) in 1963. Duke appeared in three straight national championships from 1990-92, losing in 1990 but winning in 1991 and 1992.

Back-to-back NCAA Tournament winners

There have been several teams to repeat as national champions during the history of the men's NCAA Tournament.

Florida in 2006 and 2007 is the most recent team to do it before the Huskies. Other coaches to have pulled off the feat are Mike Krzyzewski, Wooden, Ed Jucker, Phil Woolpert, Adolph Rupp, and Henry Iba.
