The time has come at the 2023 World Series of Poker for the best event of the series -- the WSOP Main Event!

Kicking off on Monday, July 3, with Day 1A, nearly 1,000 players took a seat on the first of four opening flights. Registration is also open through the first two levels on Day 2, as the biggest WSOP Main Event in history is expected with the 2006 record of 8,773 players likely to be smashed.

The opening flight of the 2023 WSOP Main Event attracted over 1,000 players, including past champions and big-name pros. The PokerGO feature table was in play at the start of Level 3, and following the dinner break, a new set of players took their seats. They included Tony Dunst, Martin Finger, Alex Keating, Farah Galfond, and Poker Hall of Fame member Dewey Tomko.

With the blind at 300/600, Jimmy Guerrero opened the action with a raise under the gun to 1,500, holding pocket aces. Tomko called next to act with pocket 7s, and Keating called with pocket eights before Kyle Frey made it 6,000 with pocket 9s.

Once the blinds folded, Guerrero reraised to 13,700 total, and both Tomko and Keating folded. Frey shoved all-in for 50,500 -- roughly 84 big blinds, and Guerrero quickly called.

Guerrero had Frey in bad shape, but a 9 on the flop thrust Frey into the lead. The turn and river blanked out, and Frey’s misstep landed him on the right side of fortune, as he doubled to over 105,000 on Day 1A of the WSOP Main Event.

Frey became one of the 721 players to advance from the Day 1A starting flight as he bagged 112,800 in chips. Guerrero finished with just under starting stack, while other feature table players, including Dunst, Galfond, Finger, and Tomko, also advanced to the following day.
