Manchester United's top brass has thrown their full support behind manager Erik ten Hag, even as the team struggles in the Premier League. Despite a heavy 3-0 loss to Liverpool and a rocky start to the season, club executives insist that Ten Hag's job is safe.

United's chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth both emphasized their commitment to the Dutchman, who only narrowly avoided the sack last season.

After finishing eighth in the league but clinching the FA Cup by beating Manchester City, Ten Hag was given another chance. However, with United currently sitting in 14th place with just three points from three matches, questions are being raised again about his future.

Berrada addressed the situation, stating, "Erik has our full backing and we have worked very closely together in this transfer window. We’re going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results of the team."

Full support to Erik ten Hag despite struggles

When asked if Ten Hag would still have the club's confidence if results worsen, Berrada was clear: "Absolutely. We think Erik is the right coach for us, and we’re fully backing him."

Ashworth echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive relationship he has developed with Ten Hag. “I’ve really enjoyed working with Erik for the last eight weeks," he said. "My job is to support him in every way I possibly can, whether that’s operationally, with recruitment, or anything else to let him focus on the training pitch and match tactics to deliver success for Manchester United.”

The current situation draws comparisons to United's struggles in the 1986-87 season, where they started with just one point from four games, leading to the dismissal of Ron Atkinson. That decision paved the way for Sir Alex Ferguson, who became the club’s most successful manager.

As United prepares to face Southampton after the international break on September 14, the pressure is on to turn things around. A win would be crucial to avoiding their worst start to a season since that fateful 1986-87 campaign. However, regardless of the outcome, United’s leadership seems determined to stand by Ten Hag.
