Sheffield United are interested in Southampton fringe defender James Bree as they look to sign a new right-back this summer following Jayden Bogle's transfer to Leeds United, according to Football League World.

Bree arrived in January last year, with former Saints boss Nathan Jones signing him having worked with him previously at Luton Town.

He signed for a reported fee of £750,000, signing him for a cut-price fee by taking advantage of the fact his contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

The right back would only go on to make just 15 starts across all competitions though last season, failing to nail down a starting spot in the side.

The arrival of Russell Martin has not changed his impact, with Kyle Walker-Peters being favoured to the 26-year-old. This has limited Bree to very few Championship appearances this season.

A promotion to the top flight is only going to hinder Bree's chances of playing even more now that the Saints have signed Yukinara Sugawara as well.

Although the report says the 26-year-old is ready to fight for his place at St. Mary's in the Premier League next season, he may want to leave in search of regular game time, likely to a Championship side such as Sheffield United. Saints are likely to make a decent profit, too.
