The Europa League is slowly growing in importance as more big clubs take part in the competition.

In the 2022/23 campaign, the likes of Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal and Ajax have all appeared in the tournament. The introduction of the Europa Conference League has also boosted the competitiveness of the Europa League.

The winner of the Europa League also earns a spot in the Champions League in the following season, in addition to a healthy sum of money.

Teams can earn close to £20 million ($25m) if they manage to triumph in all their group games on their way to winning the whole competition. Those who drop down from the Champions League can also earn a good amount in the knockout stages.

How much does Europa League winner get in 2023?

Despite the growing presence of the Europa League, the prize money on offer has dropped from the 2021/22 season. This is because UEFA have decided to withhold some money from the competition so it can be used for COVID-19 relief programmes across European football.

This means that winning the competition will be even more important for those clubs who are struggling with a low budget at the moment. Along with the money they can earn by qualifying for the Champions League group stages ($17.17m, £13.72m), the Europa League still offers notable riches for the champions.
