France stars, strengths and weaknesses

Renard took charge of four games in the lead-up to the World Cup for France, beating Colombia (5-2), Canada (2-1), and the Republic of Ireland (3-0), before losing to Australia (1-0).

Fans were disappointed during the last European Championships as they failed to reach the final, but it seems like despite being shut out against Australia, they have regained their goalscoring form.

Stars

Grace Geyoro picked up seven direct goal contributions in eight World Cup qualifying matches and has also scored in two of the four games since Renard has been at the helm.

Captain Wendie Renard is one of the most important players in this team as she is not only the anchor in defence, but she is also a threat from set-pieces for France.

Eugenie Le Sommer, who has already got five World Cup goals to her name, is also entering the tournament in fine form as the French look to go all the way this summer.

Weaknesses

The main weakness for France could be their unfamiliarity with Renard's tactics due to his short time in charge of the team. Although he still plays with a 4-3-3 formation, he demands a lot from his wide players.

Can France replace players on World Cup roster?

According to the official rules of the World Cup, players on the final squad can only be replaced in the event of a serious illness or injury up to 24 hours before the start of their teams first match.

The injury or illness needs to be assessed and judged by FIFA to be serious enough to prevent the player from taking part in the World Cup.
