While the Fourth of July was nearly two weeks ago, the fireworks will be in full effect in Texas on Monday night with the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby.

Two-time champ Pete Alonso headlines the group of participants, while the host team's Adolis Garcia is in the mix to take home the trophy, along with the Braves' Marcell Ozuna and Baltimore's exciting youngster Gunnar Henderson.

Globe Life Field is among the most home run-friendly parks in baseball over the last three years according to Statcast data, so the hitters should get a bit of a boost. A few minor rule and format changes should spice things up a little bit, especially in the opening round as all eight players will be competing with each other's totals to advance as opposed to being paired up head-to-head.

Home Run Derby contestants 2024

A few changes to the format of the Home Run Derby in 2024 means seeded matchups won't exist until after the first round concludes. The final two rounds will see the No. 1 seed against the No. 4 seed, and the No. 2 seed square off with the No. 3 seed, and then the winners advancing to the final.

Here are this year's participants below:

  • Adolis Garcia (OF, Texas Rangers)
  • Pete Alonzo (1B New York Mets)
  • Gunnar Henderson (SS, Baltimore Orioles)
  • Bobby Witt Jr. (SS, Kansas City Royals)
  • Teoscar Hernandez (OF, Los Angeles Dodgers)
  • Marcell Ozuna (DH, Atlanta Braves)
  • Jose Ramirez (3B, Cleveland Guardians)
  • Alec Bohm (3B, Philadelphia Phillies)

The first round and semifinals will conclude after three minutes, or 40 pitches, whichever comes first. Likewise, the finals will conclude whenever two minutes, or 27 pitches, comes first. Bonus periods don't count in the allotted pitch/time amounts.
