The Eagles are looking to rebound after a bizarre 2023 season, and it all starts with star quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Philadelphia lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 but bounced back in a big way to start last season. It went 5-0 out of the gate and held an NFL-best 10-1 record through the first 12 weeks. Then the wheels fell off.

The Eagles lost five of their last six regular season games to sacrifice what looked like a sure-fire NFC East Division title more than halfway through the year. They still made the playoffs but had to travel to Tampa Bay and lost to the Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

Philadelphia's defense was a disaster — which resulted in defensive coordinator Nick Desai's firing this offseason — but Hurts wasn't the dominant player he was earlier in the year, either.

There is zero doubt that Hurts is the Eagles' franchise quarterback, but who is his backup? Take a look at Philadelphia's updated QB depth chart below.

Eagles QB depth chart

Starter: Jalen Hurts

Hurts is the guy in Philadelphia.

The 2020 second-round pick is entering his fourth year as a starter and the Eagles have to be pleased with his production thus far. He is only one season removed from leading Philly to a 14-1 regular season record and a Super Bowl berth after finishing second in the NFL MVP race and third for AP Offensive Player of the Year.

Hurts regressed in 2023 but was still one of the league's best quarterbacks. He threw for a career-high 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns but also had a career-high 15 interceptions. He punched in a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns (thanks to the Tush Push) and added 605 yards on the ground.

He is in no danger of losing his starting job.

Backup: Kenny Pickett

The Eagles lost backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to the Commanders in free agency but quickly found a replacement.

They sent a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks to the Steelers for Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick.

Pickett was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft but did not make the most of his opportunity as a starter in Pittsburgh. Pickett started 24 games over two seasons but never threw for over 2,500 yards in a single season. He only threw 13 touchdown passes in that span but matched that total with 13 interceptions.

He did own a 14-10 record as a starter with the Steelers (thanks to a stout defense), but Pickett lost the QB1 job last season and will now serve as Hurts' backup.

Third string: Tanner McKee

The Eagles selected McKee out of Stanford with a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He was the third-string quarterback as a rookie last season but never saw the field. McKee will resume his role as QB3 behind Hurts and Pickett this season.

Fourth string: Will Grier

Grier has only been in the NFL for four seasons but has been a journeyman.

The Panthers selected Grier with a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, but he never panned out. He started two games during his rookie season and threw zero touchdowns and four interceptions.

Grier was released by Carolina in 2021. He has been a practice squad player for the Cowboys, Bengals, Patriots, and Chargers since then.

The Eagles signed him to a one-year contract for the 2024 season.
