Spain and Italy face off in their second Group B match of UEFA Euro 2024 on Thursday, June 20, at VELTINS-Arena, Gelsenkirchen. Both teams aim to secure a place in the knockout stages with a win.

Spain made a strong start, defeating Croatia with a commanding 3-0 victory in their first match. All three goals came in the first half, setting a confident tone for La Roja in the so-called 'Group of Death'.

Italy, on the other hand, had a tougher time in their opener. They trailed Albania after just 23 seconds but bounced back to win 2-1, securing crucial points in what was expected to be their easiest group match.

Spain has had recent success against Italy, winning successive UEFA Nations League semifinals. However, they have never beaten Italy in three consecutive matches. Italy, the Euro 2020 champions, have lost only one of their last 12 matches under new coach Luciano Spalletti.

A draw might be enough to send both teams to the last 16, but pride and past rivalries add extra spice to this encounter.

Spain vs. Italy lineups & team news

Spain have both Rodri and Alvaro Morata available for their match against Italy, having fully recovered from fitness concerns.

Aymeric Laporte, who missed the opening game, comes in for Nacho at the heart of the defence. De La Fuente has otherwise stuck with the same team from the opening game.

Spain confirmed lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Simon (GK) — Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella — Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz — Lamine Yamal, Morata, Williams.

Italy also have a fully fit squad. Head coach Luciano Spalletti stuck with the XI from the opening win over Albania, meaning Riccardo Calafiori continues in defence.

Nicolo Barella, with five goal involvements in his past seven games, will hope to continue his fine international form.

Italy confirmed lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Donnarumma (GK) — Di Lorenzo, Bastoni, Calafiori, Dimarco — Jorginho, Barella — Frattesi, Pellegrini, Chiesa — Scamacca.
