Cameron Norrie breezed into the second round of the French Open after making light work of French wildcard Manuel Guinard.

The British No.1 headed into the second Grand Slam of the year off the back of his Lyon Open title win on Saturday and took just over two hours 15 minutes to see off Guinard, winning 7-5 6-2 6-0.

He'll now face Australian qualifier Jason Kubler in the next round as he looks to carry his impressive form deep into the tournament - he has never gone beyond the third round at Roland-Garros.

"It was a battle, the first set, and I just had to hang in there. He played great and held his intensity. I was able to match that and steal a break then serve it out," Norrie said.

"It's so nice to get my first win here this year. It's my first time playing on this court, it's so special and a great atmosphere, especially playing against a French player. There's definitely some Brits in the crowd, too, so it was good stuff.

"I have to be really patient with the clay. When I'm playing really, really well I can love it and then when I'm not I have moments where I don't like it so much.

"It feels really good to win today."

*Norrie 7-5 6-2 6-0 Guinard - Norrie wins third set and the match

Guinard's energy from the opening set look to have cost him now, he's struggling to keep pace with Norrie. The British No.1 races to a 40-0 lead and with 2 hours 17 mins on the clock he gets the win with a volley at the net.

Norrie 7-5 6-2 5-0 *Guinard

Norrie looks in a hurry to get this game over now. Guinard attempts a cheeky underarm serve, seemingly out of desperation, but Norrie is equal to it and wins the point. Guinard is running on adrenaline at this point though and at deuce Norrie fires a forehand beyond the base line. A valiant effort from Guinard but Norrie picks him off once again with an easy forehand winner. Norrie will serve for the match.

*Norrie 7-5 6-2 4-0 Guinard

A few cheers from the crowd gives Guinard a lift as he takes the opening point on Norrie's serve. But more unforced errors sees Norrie very much on his way to a bagel now.

Norrie 7-5 6-2 3-0 *Guinard

A weary looking forehand from Guinard goes long to hand Norrie a 30-0 lead and that's followed up by a fourth double fault of the match. Norrie breaks again and is running away with it.

*Norrie 7-5 6-2 2-0 Guinard

The 10th seed is in complete control now and his shots placed into the corners are leaving his opponent rooted. Norrie races to a 2-0 lead.

Norrie 7-5 6-2 1-0 *Guinard

*Norrie 7-5 6-2 Guinard - Norrie wins second set

Where did that come from? Some brilliant shot-making from the Frenchman leads to three break points. Norrie saves all three. Guinard fails to pull off an audacious drop shot as Norrie gets set point. Guinard pulls off an exceptional backhand cross-court winner to earn break point but Norrie responds well and at the fifth time of asking an ace secured him the second set.

Norrie 7-5 5-2 *Guinard

Guinard is finding out what it's like to play at the top level now and finds himself 0-30 down and then needing to save two set points. He does so and  is making it hard for Norrie.

*Norrie 7-5 5-1 Guinard

Norrie is just starting to turn it up a notch now and is rarely making mistakes. He hold to love.

Norrie 7-5 4-1 *Guinard

New balls and new strings to match for both players. Some big shots from Guinard should be winners but Norrie finds an answer each time and he races to a 4-1 lead with the Frenchman looking a little dejected.

*Norrie 7-5 3-1 Guinard

It's Norrie who is on the defensive this game and he finds himself needing to save break point. Guinard hits back-to-back forehands into the net and Norrie regroups to hold and stretches his lead.

Norrie 7-5 2-1 *Guinard

A third game and a third break of serve. Impressive tennis from the British No.1 and it's also left the French fans quiet. Guinard looked tired in those rallies. Can he break straight back again?

*Norrie 7-5 1-1 Guinard

A few fierce forehand winners causes Norrie problems and he's faced with saving three break points. He can't do it and Guinard breaks straight back.

Norrie 7-5 1-0 *Guinard

A few scrappy points in the early stages here but a cross-court forehand from Guinard moves him to 40-30. A clever shot from Norrie drags him wide and back to deuce. An opening physical game works to Norrie's strengths though and he gets the break.

*Norrie 7-5 Guinard - Norrie wins first set

Norrie manages to soak up some big ground-strokes in a 27 shot rally to lead 30-15 and soon finds himself on two set points. He takes it after some neat work at the net and after 71 minutes he's finally got his first set on the board.

Norrie 6-5 *Guinard

Long rallies from the baseline continue to dominate the order of play in this match before Norrie hits a nice drop shot to go 15-30 up. An overhead smash gives him two break points. Guinard saves both but when presented with a third break point, Norrie gets it following a double serve.

*Norrie 5-5 Guinard

The simplest of volleys sees Norrie take control but Guinard lets him know he's not going anywhere with a peach of a backhand winner. Norrie pulls a first ace out the bag to hold.

Norrie 4-5 *Guinard

Norrie is struggling to make anything count right now, his shots are pinging off his racquet all over the court. A monster ace from Guinard sees out the game and suddenly Norrie is on the back foot and serving to stay in the set.

*Norrie 4-4 Guinard

New balls are introduced and it's Guinard who's taken to them better to go 0-30 up. An unforced error gets Guinard to three break points and he gets the break at the first attempt - this time a wayward forehand from Norrie.

Norrie 4-3 *Guinard

A tired looking forehand from Guinard lets Norrie back into the game at 15-30 but a 15th unforced error from the Briton gets him back on track. Another overhit forehand then gifts Guinard the game.

*Norrie 4-2 Guinard

Norrie won't have wanted his service game to last as long as his previous one but some aggressive defence work from his opponent says otherwise. Guinard gets to break point following the longest rally of the match (26 shots) but can't make it count. Norrie only has to go to deuce three times around to hold.

Norrie 3-2 *Guinard

Both players are dripping with sweat and the previous game looks to have taken it out of Norrie a little. At 40-0 down he gets two points back with Guinard's lob failing to come off. Deuce soon arrives again but a couple of big serves from 6ft 6in Guinard sees him hold. Both players need water at the break.

*Norrie 3-1 Guinard

A delightful drop shot from Guinard gets a huge round of applause to take the first point before a lucky shot off the net also goes his way. Good pressure from Norrie forces the score back to 30-30 and the world No.11 goes on to take the fourth game despite going to deuce 11 times, double-faulting twice and having to save break point.

Norrie just couldn't make it count when he had the advantage with several unforced errors but eventually gets over the line. If we needed any signs this match could be a long one, then now we have it.

Norrie 2-1 *Guinard

The opening two points each last 22-strokes from the back of court and both go Norrie's way. Norrie gets three break points following a double fault and then a over hit forehand from Guinard gifts him the break.

*Norrie 1-1 Guinard

Norrie has Guinard running all over the court to take a 30-0 lead before an unforced error from the latter. He serves out to love to get his first points on the board.

Norrie 0-1 *Guinard

Norrie finds himself with some early break points in the opening game, but back-to-back unforced errors from the Briton sees Guinard pull back into the game. He comes from 15-40 down to take it and that should settle some early nerves for the Frenchman.
