Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez will take to the courts in Paris for her second appearance at the Olympic Games.
Fernandez made her professional debut in 2021 and caused waves after defeating three Top 5 players on her way to a 2021 US Open final, finishing as a runner up to Emma Raducanu.
In her Olympic debut in Tokyo, the Montreal native fought through the first round before losing in the next round to Czech player Barbora Krejcikova.
In Paris, Fernandez will be participating in both the singles and doubles events. She is seeded 16th in singles and fifth in doubles, partnered with Gabriela Dabrowski.
Fernandez said she is proud to be representing Team Canada again.
"There is also a greater sense of responsibility, as we are not playing for ourselves, but for a country, a community," Fernandez said.
