Defending champion Novak Djokovic is chasing a record-breaking 25th major title. The Serb is currently tied with Margaret Court for the most number of singles grand slams at 24.
But the 37-year-old will face stiff competition from the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
In the women's section, Florida's Coco Gauff, who captured her first major at last year's US Open with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aryna Sabalenka, will be one of the favourites.
Gauff enters this year's tournament as the third seed, behind Sabalenka and world number one Iga Swiatek but is sure to receive strong support at her home grand slam.

US Open 2024 schedule
The first round of matches in both the ATP and WTA singles competitions begins on Monday, August 26, with the order of play on most days starting from 11:00 a.m. EDT in the first, second, third and fourth (last 16) rounds.
Both days of quarterfinals will begin at 12:00 p.m. EDT, while the WTA and ATP semifinals over the following two evenings begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT and 3:00 p.m. EDT respectively.
The WTA women's singles final takes place at 4:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 7 from the Arthur Ashe Stadium, while the ATP men's decider from the same arena will close out the final Grand Slam of 2024 on Sunday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
