Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was on course to score a double century but had to finish his brilliant innings with an unbeaten 171 in the first Test match against Bangladesh.

However, he was denied the opportunity as Pakistan captain Shan Masood opted to declare the team's innings before Rizwan could reach his milestone.

The decision caused discussion and furor on social media, however, vice-captain Saud Shakeel, who had scored 141 runs, while stitching up a long partnership with Rizwan, revealed that it was mutual decision taken with the team in mind, clarifying that there have not been any issues between the players.

Why did Pakistan captain Shan Masood declare the team's innings early and prevent Mohammed Rizwan from scoring a double century?

The Pakistan cricket team finished their first innings with 448/6 on board, after captain Shan Masood opted to declare the team's innings on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh.

There were accusations on social media that it was a deliberate ploy from Masood to prevent Rizwan from reaching his double century milestone, however, vice-captain Saud Shakeel has come to the defence of his skipper.

During the press conference at the end of Day 2, Shakeel cleared all rumors about the decision to declare the innings when Rizwan was batting on 171*.

"As far as Rizwan Bhai's double century is concerned, the decision to declare the innings was not taken in haste because Rizwan Bhai was told an hour in advance that we will declare the innings at this time. So, he had an idea when the innings was going to be declared. They were told that we would declare the innings around 450 runs," Shakeel revealed.

At the end of the second day, Pakistan had reached close to 450 runs and going with the plan, skipper Masood took the decision to declare the innings when Rizwan was still stranded close to the double-century milestone.

While Shakeel provided a clarification, the Pakistan wicketkeeper who was at the receiving end of the decision has not yet made a statement about the incident.
