India recently celebrated their 78th Independence Day on August 15. Over the years, the Indian cricket team have grown in stature. From being minnows of world cricket to conquering every trophy possible, the Men in Blue have come a long way,

India's first major achievement in world cricket was lifting the 1983 Prudential Cup (present-day ODI World Cup) beating the mighty West Indies in the final.

Kapil Dev and Co. did the unthinkable as they got the better of the giants of world cricket like England, Australia and the Windies.

Kapil's Devils' historic triumph in England literally into the map after which there was no looking back for the Indian cricket team.

They later won the Benson Hedges Trophy in 1985 and jointly won the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002. A year later they reached the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Then 2007 arrived when a young Indian side under the captaincy of a then-rookie leader MS Dhoni bagged the inaugural T20 World Cup trophy. Dhoni went on to win the ODI World Cup as a captain in 2011 and then win the Champions Trophy once again in 2013. Under Dhoni's leadership, India also grabbed the No. 1 spot in the Test rankings.

While speaking on Cricbuzz's 'Hey CB with DK' segment, Karthik was asked by a viewer about India's greatest victory post-1947, to which the former Indian wicket-keeper said, "

You have to understand that different tournaments and trophies have different meanings. 1983 put Indian cricket on the map. When no one else believed, India did. The 2007 T20 World Cup, a watershed moment. Such a poor World Cup in 2007 for the 50 overs, turning it around in T20. A young captain called MS Dhoni. Come from one of the small towns of India, coming and taking India to glory and becoming one of the greatest captains in history.

Then India vs Australia Test series (2001). Australia had won 14 test matches in a row. VVS Laxman and Rahul batting the full day at the Eden Gardens, winning that series. There are many moments but If I have to pick one, I would say the 2007 T20 World Cup because I played in it and it was an incredible journey.

What next for Dinesh Karthik?

Having played his last game in IPL 2024, the Tamil-Nadu-Born was soon announced as the batting coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Karthik will be a part of the RCB think-tank as they aim for their maiden IPL title in 2025. Karthik's first cricketing assignment post-retirement, would be the upcoming mega auction for the next season.
