When will India's Test squad for Bangladesh series be announced? Who will make the cut?

The first Test of Team India's two-match home Test series against Bangladesh is scheduled to start on September 19, 2024, however, with two weeks to go, the squad has not yet been announced.

Ahead of the Test series, a majority of the Indian players have been asked to take part in the Duleep Trophy season, where a mix of international and domestic stars have been divided into four different teams.

The first round of Duleep Trophy matches are set to start on September 4, for a four-day event, with the game starting at 9:30 AM each day.

Team A will take on Team B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and at the same time, Team D will play Team C at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantpur.

When will the India Test squad for the series against Bangladesh be announced?

According to a ESPN Cricinfo report, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the Indian Test squad for the Bangladesh series starting September 19, after the first round of the Duleep Trophy fixtures.

With the first round starting on September 5 and end on September 8 at the latest, the squad is likely to be announced thereafter in the next couple of days, before the team's training session which is set to begin on September 12 at Chepauk.

Several current Test stars including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Mukesh Kumar will be in action today at Bengaluru and Anantapur.

They will also be joined by domestic stars and potential Test players like R Sai Kishore, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Saurabh Kumar, who might find a spot in the Indian team if they manage to impress the selectors during the Duleep Trophy.

India's start of a hectic Test cricket season and World Test Championship journey continues

The two-match Test series against Bangladesh will kick off India's hectic Test cricket season, which is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Following the Bangladesh series, Team India will play New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home, followed by a five-match T20 series in South Africa and to finally end the year with a tour of Australia for a five-Test match Border Gavaskar Trophy series in November.

On the other hand, India's next opponents, Bangladesh, are coming off a high, with an impressive performance after beating Pakistan 2-0 in a historic away series victory.

While India currently occupies the top spot in the WTC standings with 68.52 points %, Bangladesh have jumped from the eighth to the fourth place in the standings with 45.83 points %.
