'You set the field, I trust you' - Jasprit Bumrah reveals he blindly trusts Rohit Sharma's field settings

Mumbai Indians' (MI) ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah revealed the on-field chemistry with former skipper Rohit Sharma. Bumrah made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians under the captaincy of Rohit, and flourished as a world-class bowler, rising up the ranks through the IPL.

Recently, Jasprit Bumrah finished as the Man of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup 2024, winning the tournament under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

During The Indian Express Adda, Bumrah spoke about how he blindly trusted Rohit Sharma with the field placements during the latter's captaincy reign at MI in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

What did Jasprit Bumrah say about his on-field chemistry with Rohit Sharma in the IPL?

Jasprit Bumrah credited Rohit Sharma for his field placements during his time as Mumbai Indians' captain. A captain should be in-sync with the bowler, with regards to the field placements. Often, it is the bowler who sets the field, or at least demands the skipper to place the field in a certain way.

However, Jasprit Bumrah revealed how former MI skipper Rohit Sharma, solely set the field for him in the IPL. The 30-year-old revealed that he blindly trusted Rohit Sharma with the field placements. 

Playing in the IPL as well, I even used to go and tell Rohit that 'You set the field,  I am going to bowl this ball. You set the field, and I trust you whatever you feel is right. You set the field', Jasprit Bumrah revealed at an Indian Express event.

What next for Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma?

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20I format after the World Cup 2024 triumph. The Indian skipper will be back in action for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. 

For Jasprit Bumrah, the scenario is a bit different. India's premiere pacer is rested for the tour of Sri Lanka. The Ahmedabad-born speedster will be available for selection for the subsequent Test series against Bangladesh.
