It's hard to imagine anything more humiliating than being rejected after getting down on one knee.

It's even more humiliating to get rejected on the Kiss Cam at a professional football game and subsequently have nachos spilled down your shirt. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to a love-struck Rams fan when his significant other—a Chargers fan—declined his proposal at the teams' preseason matchup on Saturday.

Or was it?

Upon closer investigation, it becomes clear the incident was fake. Unlike Chargers fan Merriane Do, who many thought the team staged because of her passionate facial expressions last year, this viral moment was the work of team insiders who were able to plant the actors due to the all-LA contest technically being a Chargers home game.

Here's everything to know about the fake wedding proposal that took place at the preseason game between Los Angeles rivals.

Rams-Chargers wedding proposal video, explained: Viral moment from preseason game confirmed fake

During the Kiss Cam activation at the Rams-Chargers game, the camera honed in on an innocent-looking couple in the crowd. Almost immediately, the man shoots to his feet and drops down to one knee, all while his supposed girlfriend is shaking her head.

He pops the question, and she very clearly refuses just before another Chargers fan, who is on her way down the stairs, dumps her nachos down his Puka Nacua jersey. Convenient timing to embarrass a Rams fan at a Chargers home game.

The Athletic Rams beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue confirmed the incident was fake on X, writing that she watched rehearsals take place. Nevertheless, social media was quick to assume there was something fishy with the situation. Here are some of the best replies to the viral video.
