The Canadian international has been the subject of transfer speculation for some time, and Lille president Olivier Létang has now recently admitted that the forward is likely to depart this summer. With only a year left on his current contract, the 24-year-old could be available for a relatively low price of £20 million ($25m).

This summer transfer window presents an opportune moment for Lille to sell David if he does not agree to a new contract, and several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation.

Chelsea and West Ham have expressed interest in the talented Canadian throughout the transfer window, but it is Tottenham who have initiated discussions with Lille regarding the striker.

Tottenham struggled to find a suitable replacement for their top scorer Harry Kane after he left for Bayern Munich last summer.

The Lilywhites are now looking to bolster their striking options ahead of the upcoming season.

Last year, Spurs captain Son Heung-min was heavily relied upon for goals, but Ange Postecoglou's side may soon welcome a new number nine as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

After bursting onto the scene as a teenager at Gent, David made the switch to Lille in 2020. In Ligue 1, he has made a real impression, scoring 33 and assisting four times in 83 outings.

In addition, the forward has enjoyed a fine start to his international career. He has scored 29 times for the Canada national team in 54 caps, putting him just one behind teammate Cyle Larin in his country’s all time top scorers charts.
