Manchester City are preparing for one of the most important games in their club's history as they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
The Citizens have never won the competition but that could change this season as Pep Guardiola looks to lead his side to European immortality. It would also secure a historic treble for the club, who have already won the Premier League and FA Cup this season.
Going up against the Nerazzurri will not be as easy as many bookmakers are making it out to be, but the goalscoring form of Erling Haaland and Ilkay Gundogan will certainly help the Manchester side.
The Sporting News looks at why Man City are nicknamed the Citizens.

Why are Man City called the Citizens?
Man City hold two nicknames when referring to the club, the Sky Blues and the Citizens. The latter is used more often to talk about the club, along with the shortened 'City'.
Citizens is simply a twist on 'Manchester City' to give a name to their supporters. It is always said to have a deeper meaning as a slight dig to Manchester United fans. It shows the local support of Man City fans compared to the often stated nationwide fanbase of Red Devil fans.
Although Citizens is not an official nickname, it is used frequently to describe both the club and the fans.
What is the difference between Citizens and Cityzens?
Despite the difference in spelling between 'Citizens' and 'Cityzens', there are no major differences in the meaning of either name. Cityzens is the spelling the club use to describe their members.
Cityzens is City's free membership for fans that gives access to tickets for home matches and provides exclusive offers for the those who sign up. During COVID-19 lockdown, the club launched 'Cityzens at home'. It included football coaching videos, cooking challenges and more.
