Iga Swiatek was in dominant form as she claimed an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 win over Daria Kasatkina to reach the 2022 French Open final.

The 21-year-old entered the match on the back of a 33-match winning run and extended that streak to within just one victory of Venus Williams' long-standing record of 35.

Kasatkina was broken early on, but broke back quickly to level at 2-2 in the first set. From this point on, though, Swiatek took a firm grip of the contest, winning seven of the next eight games.

Swiatek had played somewhat within herself at this year's Roland Garros despite making the semifinals, but found top form as her power, shot-selection and footwork gave her the advantage over Kasatkina.

Iga Swiatek vs. Daria Kasatkina live updates, highlights from 2022 French Open

GAME, SET, MATCH - SWIATEK! SWIATEK 6-2, 6-1 KASATKINA: What a performance by Swiatek! That was the world number one at her absolute best. There was nothing Kasatkina could do to stop Swiatek who will face either Martina Trevisan or Coco Gauff in Saturday's French Open final!

*SWIATEK 5-1 KASATKINA (6-2): Double break! This is utterly dominant tennis from Swiatek who breaks to love and will now serve for a place in the French Open final. Winners are flying off the racquet of the world number one!

SWIATEK 4-1 KASATKINA* (6-2): It's just too good from Swiatek at the moment. The world number one is now just two games from a place in the final!

*SWIATEK 3-1 KASATKINA (6-2): Break! Swiatek has now won seven of the last eight games and she is accelerating quickly towards a place in the French Open final. Kasatkina just can't handle the power and shot-making coming from the other end of the court!

SWIATEK 2-1 KASATKINA* (6-2): Swiatek secures the first love hold of the entire match. There's no doubting the world number one is currently in complete control of this match, although she still has some work to do in this second set.

*SWIATEK 1-1 KASATKINA (6-2): A very important hold for Kasatkina who is on the board in this second set nice and early. It does, however, feel like she is playing on the edge simply to stick with Swiatek. She's going for a lot and sometimes it's not coming off.

SWIATEK 1-0 KASATKINA* (6-2): This is now a huge service game for Kasatkina. She's at risk of disappearing out of this match. The Russian has lost the last five games and needs to get on the board at the start of this second set.

FIRST SET, SWIATEK! SWIATEK 6-2 KASATKINA: The world number one has one foot in the Roland Garros final as Kasatkina drops her first set of the tournament. Swiatek showed that she can move through the gears much easier than her Russian opponent in those final four games.

SWIATEK 5-2 KASATKINA*: Three games in-a-row for Swiatek and Kasatkina will have to serve to stay in this opening set. The world number one has ramped things up and the Russian hasn't been able to cope since the scoreline was tied at 2-2.

*SWIATEK 4-2 KASATKINA: Break! The key point in that game came at 15-30 when Kasatkina bizarrely missed a gimme at the net. That gave Swiatek two break points and she took the first one with a wonderful forehand winner with Kasatkina wrong-footed.

SWIATEK 3-2 KASATKINA*: Swiatek settles after a tricky couple of games and edges ahead on the scoreboard again. She secured game point with a well-taken winner at the net. This is turning into an excellent match!

*SWIATEK 2-2 KASATKINA: Kasatkina has now settled into the match, although she had to save a break point against her serve there. Nonetheless, the Russian is firing winners on both sides. Bodes well for the rest of the match!

SWIATEK 2-1 KASATKINA*: Break back! Immediate response from Kasatkina who was more aggressive in that game and found her range with a couple of excellent winners. Slightly ragged from Swiatek.

*SWIATEK 2-0 KASATKINA: Break! Kasatkina was able to save two break points against her serve, but not a third one as she finds the net. Swiatek is making a very deliberately decision to step in on the second serve.

SWIATEK 1-0 KASATKINA*: With the exception of that double fault on the first point, that was a sharp start by Swiatek as she gets on the board with a winner from the mid-court.

READY, PLAY! Swiatek to serve first and she starts with a double fault!

14:05: The two semi-finalists are out on court at Court Philippe Chatrier. Swiatek gets the louder reception from the French crowd. She is, after all, the headline attraction.

14:00: There's no denying Kasatkina is the underdog in this semi-final, but she is strong on clay and recently made a run to the semi-finals of the Italian Open. She can be very dangerous! The Russian is a very crafty player.

13:55: As already mentioned, Swiatek has won 33 matches in-a-row coming into this Roland Garros semi-final. The record in the women's game is 35 successive wins by Venus Williams. Swiatek will match that by winning the French Open title for the second time.

13:45: Swiatek has the power to dominate this match from the baseline. There were signs of a dip in form in the fourth round match against Zheng, but besides that the Polish player has been able to find her best form.

13:25: Will this extraordinary run by Swiatek continue this afternoon? The 21-year-old has been in the form of her life in recent months, embracing the number one spot vacated by Ash Barty. Swiatek looks unstoppable at the moment!

13:15: Good afternoon and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the 2022 French Open semi-final between Iga Swiatek and Daria Kasatkina. Swiatek is the strong favourite to win this one, but Kasatkina has been a surprise package throughout this tournament. Can she pull off another shock?
