Former India international cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad breathed his last on Wednesday as he passed away at the age of 71 after batting with blood cancer.
Gaekwad was suffering from the deadly disease for a long time and was admitted to the King's College Hospital in London. He returned to the country in June 2024.

Several former cricketers including the members of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team came forward to financially help the ailing. The BCCI too promised an amount of INR 1 Crore to the former player for his treatment.

Who was Anshuman Gaekwad?
Anshuman Gaekwad is a former Indian cricketer, who played for India in Test and ODI formats. He represented India for over a decade, from 1975-1987. The Mumbai-born cricketer represented Baroda in the domestic circuit.
Primarily an opening batter in the international scene, Gaekwad was a seasoned all-rounder at the national level. Despite being on the list of probables for the ODI World Cup 1983, Gaekwad could not make it to the final 15-member squad that lifted the title in West Indies.
Currently, Anshuman Gaekwad is battling against blood cancer in the United Kingdom. BCCI has extended its helping arm to one of its former cricketers, by lending an amount of INR 1 Crore to help Gaekwad fight against the cause.
