Cricket Australia have announced the side's withdrawal from the upcoming ICC Super League three-match Men’s series between the Aussies and Afghanistan.

The One Day Internationals were originally scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates in March 2023 but have now been shelved following CA’s consultation with relevant shareholders.

“This decision follows the recent announcement by the Taliban of further restrictions on women’s and girls’ education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms,” a statement noted.

“CA is committed to supporting growing the game for women and men around the world, including in Afghanistan, and will continue to engage with the Afghanistan Cricket Board in anticipation of improved conditions for women and girls in the country.”

The move comes in the wake of Australia cancelling what would have been an inaugural Test match between the two sides in November 2021 following the Taliban takeover of the country.

The historic Test was scheduled for Bellerive Oval in Hobart but was cancelled with Sports Minister Richard Colbeck urging all cricketing nations not to deal with the repressive regime.

“The Taliban’s attitudes towards women and their individual rights should not be accepted by the international sporting community,” he told the ABC at the time.
