Former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan has urged the newly appointed ICC Chairman, Jay Shah, to take the lead in restoring bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan.

With the ongoing political tensions that have kept the two cricketing giants from engaging in bilateral series, Younis believes that Shah, in his new role, could play a crucial part in bringing the two nations back to the cricket field against each other.

What did Younis Khan say?

According to reports, the BCCI is hesitant to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. However, there is optimism that Jay Shah’s leadership at the ICC could bring a change in this stance.

Younis Khan expressed hope that Shah would show the necessary sportsmanship and help facilitate India's participation in the tournament in Pakistan, as well as encourage Pakistan's visit to India.

“The cricket should uplift with the appointment of Jay Shah as the new ICC chief. He needs to show the sportsman spirit, and with his intervention, India can play in Pakistan. In the same way, Pakistan can visit India,” Younis Khan stated.

When did India last visit Pakistan?

India's last visit to Pakistan for a bilateral cricket series was in 2005-06. Since then, the two cricketing giants have faced each other only in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.
