Rashid Latif, a former Pakistan cricket captain, shared his views on the recent appointment of Jay Shah as the ICC chairman.
Latif suggested that Shah’s unopposed election to International Cricket Council's (ICC) top post indicates a deeper strategy at play, potentially involving India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan.
He highlighted that this development might play a role for the future of cricketing ties between the two neighboring countries.

What did Rashid Latif say on Pakistan's move not to oppose Jay Shah?
Latif hinted that Pakistan's decision not to oppose Jay Shah’s appointment might be a calculated move. He suggested that this could pave the way for India’s cricket team to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in 2025.
"PCB has not opposed Shah's appointment for a reason. I think there's an understanding. If India's team comes, it will be because of Jay Shah’s efforts, along with support from their government," Rashid Latif remarked.
Latif delved into Shah’s strong political background. Shah’s connections, particularly in Gujarat, contributed to his rise within the cricketing world.
Latif highlighted that Shah’s influence within the BCCI and ACC led to the construction of the Ahmedabad stadium. He suggested that this influence might extend to Shah’s new role at the ICC, where he could facilitate India’s participation in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
"Approval has already been halfway granted. India is coming to Pakistan," Latif stated, indicating his confidence in Shah.
Jay Shah’s tenure as ICC chairman could mark a turning point in cricket diplomacy between India and Pakistan. Latif also pointed out that such a development could enhance Shah’s reputation as a leader capable of bridging gaps between cricketing nations.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off on 19 February and will run until 9 March in Pakistan. This will be the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, featuring the top eight ranked ODI men's national teams. As the defending champions, Pakistan will be eager to retain their title on home soil.
