The third edition of the Saurashtra Premier League (SPL) is set to be held this year. The domestic T20 League is played in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat and has been a huge hit. The tournament's first two seasons were held in 2019 and 2022, the gap came to be because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There are five teams involved in the tournament - Sorath Lions, Gohilwad Gladiators, Halar Heroes, Kutch Warriors, and Zalawad Royals. All the matches are played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium in Rajkot. The tournament is played in a round-robin format. All the teams play each other once. The top two teams at the end of 10 matches play the final.

This year's edition was meant to start on June 15, however, Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) decided to postpone the tournament and it will now commence on August 23.

Why is Saurashtra Premier League 2023 postponed?

The SCA decided to postpone this year's SPL due to the cyclone Biparjoy which hit the coast of Gujarat, especially the Saurashtra region in the month of June.

Cyclone Biparjoy raised havoc in the region of Western India, including Rajkot, Gujarat, where the tournament was going to be held. As a result, the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) decided against holding the tournament on the original date of June 15 due to the cyclone warning and preventive measures advised by the local authorities.

"We were all set and geared up for Saurashtra Premier League (SPL) 2023 that was scheduled to be played from 15th June to 24th June 2023. Regrettably, due to cyclonic effects in the region, office bearers of Saurashtra Cricket Association have taken decision to postpone it," read a statement from the SCA.

When will Saurashtra Premier League 2023 be rescheduled?

The SPL 2023 will now be held between August 23 and August 31.
