Sunrisers Eastern Cape registered an emphatic 89-run victory at Newlands against Durban's Super Giants, to clinch their second consecutive SA20 title with Marco Jansen emerging as the MVP after securing a five-wicket haul.
Sunrisers opted to bat first after winning the toss, posting a formidable total of 204 for 3. Their batting prowess was evident in two crucial partnerships: a robust 90-run stand between Jordan Hermann and Tom Abell, followed by an unbroken 98-run partnership between Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs, who contributed with an unbeaten 56 from just 30 balls.
In contrast, Durban's batting struggled to find momentum from the outset. Despite early resistance, they succumbed to Jansen's aggressive left-arm pace, losing crucial wickets including that of Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder, leaving them reeling at 7 for 3.
Jansen continued to wreak havoc, dismantling Durban's lineup with precision. His third over saw the dismissal of Keshav Maharaj and Junior Dala, extinguishing any hopes of a Durban resurgence.
Tom Abell's stellar innings earned him the Player-of-the-Match award, despite early setbacks. His aggressive batting, coupled with Stubbs' explosive hitting, propelled Sunrisers past the 200-run mark.
In the end, Sunrisers' comprehensive performance proved insurmountable for Durban, securing their second SA20 title in style.
