The 2023 Ashes series between England and Australia has been a thrill-a-minute affair in the three Tests so far, with not one boring phase.

The storied rivalry rarely disappoints but this year, the teams have taken it up a notch.

All the three games so far have gone down to the wire. The first Ashes Test of the summer saw Australia just about edging England at Edgbaston. The second Test at Lord's was even more dramatic but the result saw Australia increasing their lead to 2-0. The third Test was as closely fought as the first two.

Who won the Ashes third Test?

England, after losing the first two Tests, were staring down the barrell going into the third Test at Headingley. But Ben Stokes' men managed to eke out a morale-boosting win that has kept the series well and truly alive.

In a game that moved along at break-neck pace, England won the toss and invited Australia to bat first in bowler-friendly conditions. And the Aussies were promptly reduced to 85/4 before a stunning 118 from Mitchell Marsh swung the tide in Australia's favour. But Mark Wood's fiery burst (5/34) saw Australia's innings end at 263.

England were in trouble in their reply at 142/7, only for a Ben Stokes special (80) to bring the deficit down to just 26. And then in overcast conditions, England bowled out Australia for 224.

The target of 251 seemed daunting but England openers got off to a quick start before Harry Brook came into his own. Despite losing partners regularly, Brook's 75 got England within touching distance. Even though he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the end, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood saw the team home, with three wickets to spare and reduced Australia's series lead to 2-1.
