India are currently taking on Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final being held at The Oval in England, London.
Currently, the odds are stacked against them with Australia having set a target of 444. The wide gap between the two sides is largely due to the below-par performance from India in the first and second innings.
However, not all hope is lost since India has previously overcome as difficult circumstances to come out as the victors in a Test match. Should they successfully chase whatever score Australia finally puts on the board, it would be their highest-ever successful chase in a Test match.

What is India's highest successful chase in a Test match?
India achieved their highest-ever successful Test chase against West Indies in 1976 when they completed the herculean task of chasing down a target of 403 runs to beat the Caribbean nation 53 years ago.
On that day, batters Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath were the protagonists with both players scoring a century (102 and 112* respectively) to help India complete their highest-ever chase in a Test match and the third-overall highest chase in the format's history.

List: India's top 10 highest successful chases in Test matches
In the first-ever Test match against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India completed their second-highest successful Test chase, successfully chasing down a total of 387 runs in the fourth innings. Sachin Tendulkar's impressive knock of 103 runs along with excellent support from Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Virender Sehwag got India across the finishing line.

Their third-highest successful Test chase came recently in 2021 against their WTC opponents Australia in Brisbane, with India successfully chasing a total of 328 runs in the final innings. Heroic innings from Shubman Gill (91 runs) and Rishabh Pant (89*) helped the Indians complete a stunning comeback.
