With FIFA 23's release, gamers will be scrambling to get their hands on a copy.

Despite the famous football franchise usually having a recommended retail price, there is usually always a way to snare the game for less.

The Sporting News explains how you can save when you purchase the final game in the partnership between EA Sports and FIFA.

What is the cheapest way to buy FIFA 23?

Pre-order

There were two ways for consumers to get a 10 per cent discount to purchase FIFA 23 via pre-order.

  • With a subscription to EA Play, purchasing the game digitally through EA Sports' website.
  • If you own FIFA 22, opening the game and hitting the 'pre-order FIFA 23' button, where purchasing the Ultimate edition activated the discount.

Unfortunately, once the game is released worldwide on September 30, that pre-order window of opportunity is closed.

On release

There are sure to be deals available for FIFA 23 eventually, as fans scramble to get in on the action.

Online retailers have traditionally tried to cash in on the flurry of interest, so it is worth scouting around to find the best deals available from across gaming providers.

For those looking to purchase the game straight away, the deals are likely to be limited but if you can wait a little, the best options for future discounts tend to come around Black Friday, in November, when prices can sometimes be up to 30% less than the standard retail price.

Where can I buy FIFA 23?

FIFA 23 will be able to be purchased at most video game retailers and electronics stores that sell video games.

FIFA 23 Standard Edition vs. Ultimate Edition

As with previous versions, FIFA 23 will boast three different editions that fans can purchase: the Standard Edition, the Ultimate Edition, and the Legacy Edition.

The Standard Edition will cost $59.99 (£59.99), consistent with most major video game releases.

The Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99 (£89.99), but allowed the user to access the game three days earlier on the pre-release date. It also comes with the following:

Benefits Standard Ultimate
Team of the Week 1 Player item (untradeable) ✔️ ✔️
Kylian Mbappe loan item ✔️ ✔️
FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick ✔️ ✔️
Career Mode Homegrown Talent ✔️ ✔️
FUT 'Ones to Watch' Item ✔️
4,600 FIFA Points ✔️
FIFA World Cup FUT Hero (on pre-orders) ✔️
Three Days Early Access (on pre-orders) ✔️

The Legacy Edition will cost $39.99 (£34.99) and is a call-back to previous versions, featuring updated rosters, but "without any new development or significant enhancements," EA Sports confirmed. This is mainly for the Nintendo Switch, which only comes in Legacy Edition. It will not come with the new HyperMotion 2 technological enhancements or any of the new gameplay modes. Essentially, this is FIFA 22 with a few minor upgrades.

What is EA Sports FC?

The latest installment of FIFA 23 will be the last under the partnership between EA Sports and world governing body FIFA.

After this coming release, all future games will cease using the FIFA name or branding, and the World Cup will also cease being a part of the game as an official FIFA event. Instead, the franchise will be rebranded as EA Sports FC.

After months of negotiations regarding an extension of their current partnership, the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on future terms. While the current contract expires after the 2022 World Cup in December, EA Sports and FIFA agreed to extend the current deal through the FIFA Women's World Cup in July and August 2023.

Following the expiration of the deal, the game will become EA Sports FC. While the name will be different and the aesthetics of the game could change, there is little about the game's structure or gameplay that will fundamentally change after the separation.

"EA SPORTS FC will allow us to realize this future and much more…but not before we deliver our most expansive game ever with our current naming rights partner, FIFA, for one more year," said EA Sports in the company's official statement. "We are committed to ensuring the next FIFA is our best ever, with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any FIFA title before."
