Since the Professional Fighters League launched, it has made it a point to look and feel different compared to every other MMA organization. That trend will continue when the World Championship Finals come to Washington, D.C. The last card of the year will air on November 24.
The year-long tournament format has proven to be a success for the PFL. That is thanks in part to the unpredictable nature of fight nights. A betting favorite can either win their match or get eliminated from the tournament in the blink of an eye. Upsets are nothing new in MMA, they've become part of the culture of the PFL.
"Look at how big March Madness has become in this country,” PFL founder Donn Davis told Yahoo Sports. “Part of the reason for that is those upsets, and you never know what’s going to happen. You might have a school no one has ever heard of come in ranked 16th and knock off the No. 1 seed, the team that everyone thought would win it all. It’s become enormous. And we’re trying to do that.

“The fighters determine who wins the million, not us. They determine the seedings and the fights and everything by winning. You might see a highly touted fighter lose, and maybe it’s someone we’ve paid a lot of money to. We don’t control that, and it’s a meritocracy. And I think the fans appreciate that. We’re not matchmaking the fights and trying to make sure anyone wins.”
Several returning champions will appear at the finals, while new faces look to win $1 million.
Lightweight champion Olivier Aubin-Mercier faces boxer Clay Collard. Welterweight champion Sadibou Sy faces Magomed Magomedkerimov in a rematch from 2021. Also, lightweight champion Larissa Pacheco competes at the featherweight level against Marina Mokhnatkina.
Other fights on the card include Renan Ferreira vs. Denis Goltsov at heavyweight, Josh Silveira vs. Impa Kasanganay at light heavyweight, and Jesus Pinedo vs. Gabriel Braga in featherweight action.
In this new age of streaming, there are various ways to watch fights. The Sporting News will provide information on how you can watch the PFL World Championship Finals.
