Well if it isn't the same old Jets.

If you weren't in your seats for the start of the Aaron Rodgers era, it was probably over by the time your rear hit the plastic. Just four snaps into his Jets career, Rodgers went down with an Achilles injury, ending his 2023 season and potentially his Hall of Fame career.

But, as it goes with the Jets, there's almost always a modicum of controversy surrounding events. According to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini, the quarterback had a bit of issue with the playcall that led to his injury.

According to the report, Rodgers was displeased that the playcall that led to his injury featured a cut block by offensive tackle Duane Brown; a cut block is a low block on a defender that is designed to keep his hands low and out of a passing lane, in order for the passer to release the ball quickly.

Rodgers, apparently, wasn't a fan of that design, because he can't extend the plays which are designed to get the ball out of his hands in the immediate.

This is certainly an interesting wrinkle in the situation, especially considering Rodgers' relationship with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, whom he's described as a brother.

On the play, Brown tried to cut block Bills pass rusher Leonard Floyd, but it was generally unsuccessful. To complicate matters, Rodgers didn't release the ball quickly, leading to a sack and the injury.

When asked for his reaction after the game, Brown kept it simple.

"Yeah, it sucks," he said.

Rodgers had three drop backs and was pressured on all three, with the last pressure the coup de grace on his 2023 season — and maybe his NFL career.
