Asian Games 2023: Indian boxing team revealed

This year's edition of the Asian Games is set to take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8 with some of the most renowned athletes in contention.

India's boxing contingent for this year's Asian Games will be led by the likes of record six-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain and two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen.

Thapa will be hoping to get his first-ever Asian Games medal and add it to his impressive list of achievements, as he will compete in the men's 63.5 kg category.

Deepak Bhoria, who is one of the most impressive prospects to come out of India recently will be looking to grow as an athlete as he represents the nation in the 51 kg category.

The 25-year-old recently won a historic bronze at the men’s World Championships in Tashkent where he toppled the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist and 2021 World Champion Saken Bibossinov of Kazakhstan. Nishant Dev in the 71kg category will also be someone to lookout for in this team.

In the women's field, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Borgohain will battle it out in the 75kg category and will be hoping to add an Asian Games medal to her impressive resume.

Zareen who etched her name in India's boxing history by becoming only the second female pugilist from the country to win two back-to-back World Championships gold medals, will seek to continue her dominance on the international stage.

Women: Nikhat Zareen (51kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Parveen Hooda (57kg), Jaismine Lamboria (60kg), Arundhati Chaudhary (66kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg). 

Men: Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Sachin Siwach (57kg), Shiva Thapa (63.5kg), Nishant Dev (71kg), Lakshya Chahar (80kg), Sanjeet 92kg, Narender Berwal (+92kg).
