Emma Raducanu celebrates in Madrid

Emma Raducanu returns to Wimbledon later this month as a Grand Slam champion for the first time in her career.

This time last year, the teenage sensation had just sat her A-Level exams and was ranked 338th in the world, as she made her Wimbledon debut in what would prove to be just the start of an incredible few months.

Raducanu became the story of the Championships as she made the fourth round before having to retire against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic due to breathing difficulties.

She soon bounced back a few months later as she made history by becoming the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam, winning the US Open without dropping a set.

Since her fairytale triumph in New York, it's been a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, but British fans will be hoping the 19-year-old will be back to her best when the SW19 tournament kicks off on June 27.

Emma Raducanu's next match

Raducanu was knocked out of Wimbledon 2022 on Wednesday, June 29. She was beaten in straight sets by experienced French player Caroline Garcia, who won 6-3 6-3 against the 19-year-old.

Raducanu began her campaign on Monday, June 27 against Alison van Uytvanck in her opening match of the 2022 tournament. The Belgian won the Veneto Open this month, beating Sara Errani in the final.

It was a closely fought affair on Centre Court but Raducanu came through in impressive style, winning 6-4 6-4.

Emma Raducanu's Wimbledon record

Raducanu has only featured in one previous main-draw Wimbledon tournament with this year being only her first full season on the WTA Tour.

She burst onto the scene last summer in SW19, entering the tournament as a wild card, and relatively unknown, but captured the hearts of the British public as she reached the second week of the tournament.

Victories over Vitalia Diatchenko and Markéta Vondroušová saw her become the youngest British woman to reach the Wimbledon third round since Elena Baltacha in 2002.

A win against Sorana Cîrstea to reach the fourth round meant she became the youngest British woman to reach the last 16 in the Open Era.

However, her impressive run came to an end in the second set of her fourth-round match with Tomljanovic as she struggled with breathing difficulties.

Her record in Grand Slams this year saw her suffer second round exits at both the Australian and French Opens.
