現地時間11月8日（日本時間11月9日）、アリゾナ・ダイヤモンドバックスはイアン・ケネディの相互オプションを行使しないことを発表した。
ケネディは2007年にニューヨーク・ヤンキースでデビューした右腕。2011年にはダイヤモンドバックスで21勝を挙げて最多勝に輝いた。サンディエゴ・パドレス、カンザスシティ・ロイヤルズなどを渡り歩き、今シーズンから再びダイヤモンドバックスでプレー。
近年はリリーフとして活躍し、2年連続で50試合以上に登板していた。今シーズンは57試合で4勝7敗、10ホールド、10セーブ、防御率5.36という成績だった。
