Former WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo has been formally charged with a DUI offense that occurred in May of this year. The news was broken by TMZ on Monday and corroborated by a number of other outlets.

It’s alleged that the 34-year-old Charlo crashed his Lamborghini Urus into another vehicle in Houston while intoxicated and fled the scene before being boxed in by police at a red light.

According to the charges, Charlo was almost twice over the legal limit in Texas. It's reported that $200 worth of damage was caused in the incident and that Charlo posted a $9,500 bond at the Brazoria County Jail.

A world-class fighter with an unbeaten record of 33-0, Charlo has fallen on hard times in recent years. He has also been open about mental health issues that he claims have been responsible for stalled his ring career.

“Depression, self-conflation, going from hot to cold really fast is shocking to you,” Charlo told the New York Post via Boxing Insider. “Dealing with all kinds of cases of bipolar, being by yourself, thinking that you shutting the world out is gonna help you.”

For this latest incident, Charlo will appear in the high court on November 7.

The Sporting News looks at other incidents that have plagued the ex-champ’s career in recent years.
