Australia have taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in their five-game T20 series against India - but the victory may have come at a price.

In the fourth clash in Mumbai, the visitors batted first and got off to a tough start when in-form duo Tahlia McGrath and Beth Mooney were both dismissed cheaply.

Australia's issues worsened when captain Alyssa Healy was forced to retire hurt on 30* due to a calf injury, leaving the side at a crossroads in their innings.

Ash Gardner (42) blasted three fours and three sixes to keep the innings ticking along, before all-rounder Ellyse Perry (72*) produced a blistering innings that included four maximums.

Grace Harris (27*) came in with a late cameo to take the Aussies to a score of 3/188 from their 20 overs and the loss of Healy would see McGrath take over the captaincy heading out into the field.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma both got starts for the hosts in their chase, before a 72-run stand between Harmanpreet Kaur (46) and Devika Vaidya (32) put them right in the hunt.

But once Alana King (2/23) was able to break that partnership, Australia were in the commanding spot, despite a late push from Richa Ghosh (40*) to keep the series alive.

India would fall seven runs short of Australia's total, with Megan Schutt able to restrict the side in the final over.

The final match of the series will take place on December 21st in Mumbai.
