Australian selectors have confirmed the squads for the upcoming T20 and 50-over tour of the UK.

The Aussies will play 11 matches in total, three against Scotland and eight against England, getting underway on September 4 and wrapping up on September 25.

Headlining the 14-man T20 squad is the surprise inclusion of rising batter Cooper Connolly.

The 20-year-old West Australian has been preferred ahead of the likes of Matthew Wade, who has missed the squad, while fellow T20I regular Ashton Agar has also been left out as selectors cast one eye to the future.

Mitchell Marsh will captain both squads while Pat Cummins is given a rest, although the Test skipper is set to feature in the Major League Cricket competition currently underway in the US.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell will join their teammates for the ODI portion of the tour as their workload is managed following a busy schedule.

At the top of the order, Jake Fraser-McGurk is expected to get the first shot at filling the void left by long-term opener David Warner's retirement.

Head selector George Bailey said the tour was about regenerating the squad and preparing for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

"With the Champions Trophy on our doorstep early next year, the white ball series against Pakistan leading into the summer and a huge home Test series against India there has been a lot of planning invested into these next six months," Bailey said.

"That has included gradual integration of new players into our white ball squads who have earned international opportunities via excellent form in Big Bash or State cricket."
