English cricket great Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has been airlifted to hospital, following a crash on the set of TV show Top Gear.

The 45-year-old, who has co-hosted the show since 2018, was on a racetrack when the accident occurred.

BBC have since confirmed the news via a short statement.

"Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately," the statement said.

"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening according to a report from The Sun, which also revealed it was a simple accident.

"He was driving on the track as normal," a source told the UK publication.

"He wasn't going at high speeds - it was just an accident that could happen to anyone.

"All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering."

It's not the first time Flintoff has been involved in an accident on the show, after the former all-rounder escaped serious injury back in 2019 following a 200km/hr crash in a three-wheeled cycle car.

Flintoff had an illustrious career on the cricket field, playing well over 200 games for England across all three formats before his retirement in 2009.

Since retirement, Flintoff has become a popular member of cricket broadcasts in England and Australia, as well as hosting multiple TV shows including Australian Ninja Warrior and I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here.
