In the previous T20 World Cup, which was held in Australia in 2022, England emerged as the winners after beating Pakistan in the final. It was their second T20 World Cup triumph, coming 12 years after they first won the competition in 2010.

West Indies and England are the only two teams to have won a T20 World Cup on more than one occasion. Both teams have done so twice.
